Hi all,

I am starting on a mosaic project for my kids school.
I want to take the schools logo and create a large
mosaic out of it.
The logo can be viewed at
http://www.ismonterey.org/images/ism_logo.gif

I am planning on involving the students
as helpers to figure out piece requirements, sorting
building, etc.
I may even try to do some fund-raising for the school
as part of this.

I am still in the planning stages,
but here is what I have in mind:
the size will be 7x3 baseplates (48x48 size)

Having never built anything this large I have many questions,
a few of which I'll post here

1. Since this mainly consists of 3 colors,
will it be noticable if we use plates larger than 1x1
like 2x2, 2x3, even up to as large as 4x8?

2. What is the best way to tie the baseplates together?
The outer edge will have a 'frame' that could cross baseplates
but the inner 5 baseplates need to be tied together using the
   pieces of the design.
Is larger plates the best way to go?
Or should each baseplate be screwed/attached to a backing board?

3. What Lego colors do you think most closely match the logo?
I am thinking of using Medium Green, Medium Blue and Dark Blue.

Thanks for any help you can provide, and
keep on bricking

dave

(...) I actually would do it in bricks instead of plates, and I would use lime green, medium blue and regular blue... great way to get rid of lime green imo. (...) Dave, Have you already tried Bob Kojima's program "Bricksaic"? DO IT !! (There's a link on the left side of lugnet.build.mosaic) His dithering algorythms don't always give perfect results, but you don't need that in this case ("nearest (...) (19 years ago, 12-May-06, to lugnet.build.mosaic)
