First off, I would like to thank everyone for sharing all their knowledge and
works of art here on lugnet. I've been reading about mosaics for a while now
and think I'm ready to start my own project.
I'm wanting to make a grayscale, 144 x 48, 1x1 plates, studs out mosaic (3 large
baseplates) of this picture:

I've ran it through Bricksaic (which is the best, thanks!) and got this:

I would just like to know that I am going to be happy with the outcome before I
go buy the ~6500-7000 pieces to build this project. I know the way a mosaic
looks is in the eye of the beholder, but I would just like some insight before I
build. As far as I know, there isn't a definite guide to get the best results,
but there are a lot of excellent examples out there. I read about people
tweaking the picture before they run it through a mosaic program and others
tweak it after the dithering. What adjustments to brightness, contrast, etc. do
you make before dithering it, and how do you exactly "clean up" a picture after
you run it through a mosaic program?
I guess you have to have an eye for art to do this sorta thing. Am I asking for
the computer to do too much for me? Should I just take the plunge and get the
parts off bricklink and get the best result through trial and error? Any help
would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Michael
