Bruce,
Good writeup you have there. I enjoyed the brief history lesson/refresher
course. As for omissions, I think you forgot to finish this sentence:

They have since decided that figs that represent real people (i.e. from
licensed lines like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Spider-Man, and the NBA).

chocolate).
An important issue that I think should precede this (without entering into too
much debate) is the fact that LEGO isisued blank heads on minifig bodies AND
at the same time introduced a non-yellow head for a unspecific human character
(Stormtrooper and TIE Fighter Pilot, respectively). To me, this was a mistake
(well, not exactly a mistake, but a decision that was not well-thought out. I
digress...).
Okay, heres to the evolution of the minifig!
