*blush*  Thanks - that's kind of you to mention.

They are awesome. I don't
have the patience for painting (those who can, do, those who can't, just
gawk in amazement at those who can do. Who Do. Er... )

Ah, but if there had been computer graphics programs easily available back in
the 1970s when I started fooling around with a paintbrush, who _know_ what I
might have got up to instead?  :)  Familiarity with a medium or tool can be a
powerful argument for its use, I find;  thus, I paint.

Do you have
a tutorial anywhere for making those anime-style hairpieces?

I've got a 2/3'rds to 3/4'ers finished tutorial on my harddrive at home.  It's
about *searches memory...* 8 pages long at the moment, but needs some further
tightening up and tinkering to be ready for prime time.  Now that ParLUGment has
finished our two day outdoor show on the world's largest skating rink (part of
the Rideau canal, here in Ottawa), I hope to have time to turn back to that
document.  When I get it finished, I'll probably post it to Lugnet.

I am now
finding modifying stock hair by whittling them down to be too limiting.

I hear your pain.  :)  That's how I got started doing my custom hairpieces.

Anyway, to hockey...
I can't imagine how you did the winged wheel and blackhawk logos in paint.

Oddly enough, those were actually fairly easy.  Or, at least, they felt that
way.  Now doing multiple parallel lines (on sweaters, socks. etc) is just
torture...  At least, it is when I do them freehand.  I suppose I could use
masking tape, but that always struck me as more fuss than the improvements in
results would justify.  I'll leave that for you to judge when the relevant
pictures appear online.

I
don't recall if the old time sweaters had the players names

Nope!  Thankfully...

but if they did,
good luck to ya.

Well, I did do a 2003 Ottawa Senators Daniel Alfredson (did I spell that
correctly?) on commission, so I know what you mean.  That was an exercise in
patience.  Fancy-shmancy two-colour fonts for numbers and names, sponsorship
logos all over the place, and a logo that's much more fiddly than most of the
classic Original Six logos.

Please post pics when they're available.

The pics are available - it's just a matter of getting them online.  Friendly
feedback such as yours is a great motivator, though, so I'll do what I can to
make it all happen sooner rather than later.

I of course used
decals again.

No shame in that.  Use whatever medium works well for you, and keep tinkering to
improve your results - that's all that matters.

I just finished up the first 6 players (still looking for
white helmets--one advantage of doing old school hockey figs - no helmets to
scrounge for, or at least, not as many):

Very nice indeed.  It helps, I think, that modern-day NHL players so often look
like they're modelling for roles in a pirate movie.  :)  As a result, all those
Wild West, Pirate, and suchlike heads are just perfect.

I like your take on the goalie pads.  Is that a pair of 1x1x2 bricks?  Hmmm - I
didn't know that brick existed...  You may just have solved my problem of how to
do Vladislav Tretiak in his home uniform from the 1972 Canada vs. USSR series.
Thanks!

I am finding the emptiness of missing NHL hockey is lessening as the weeks
wear by and my disgust with both sides of the league reaches new levels I
heretofore did not think possible.

I'm cheerfully anticipating the whole mess will stay out for at least 2 seasons.
With some luck, we might wind up with an 8 team league of real quality at the
end of it all.  (OK, "astronomically unlikely amounts of luck" would have been a
more realistic estimation in that last sentence.)

I would be very happy to watch women's
hockey instead (I went to Brown, our women's team was always competitive
(the men, not so)), but it's not popular enough to warrant air time on the
television here. [sigh]

Well, I'm enough of a hockey heretic to get just about all I need from the
Olympics every 4 years (and for free, yet!), but I sympathize with your pain.

Anyway, looking forward to those pics of your
minifigs.

Thanks a lot.  I'll post once they're online.

Regards,

Norbert Black
