I was having a look around the usual resources and the lowest numbered set with a non-standard grin face is 6235 from 1989 which has the moustache and stubble (...) | | | | | (...) I am not certain, but I think the first sets I saw with faces other than the standard yellow smiley were the first generation of Pirate sets (1989). These sets included the face you mention as well as the Redbeard face, the stubble with (...) (21 years ago, 6-May-03, to lugnet.build.minifigs)
