Instead of wasting my time studying for finals, I decided to do something
useful and built another plane instead.  This MOC is a WWII-era Me163 rocket
fighter (Germany).

It was hard getting all the curves to look right, but I feel it came out
fairly close to the original, considering the size.  I also added some
decals and a small ground crew set to add some interest.

Photos and .dat file are at:

That's gorgeous!  I love how you got the wing geometry so *close*
to the original.  The curvature is well done too, especially the
nose and tail.  The fuel wagon is a hoot!  Do you have one for each
   fuel?  :)

The Me163 used a jettisonable trolley to take off with and landed using a
retractable skid, so that's why the MOC's undercarriage is so goofy looking.

It looked OK to me--but then again, in this group we're more likely
to be aware of such Komet-type idiosyncrasies.  ;)  And like the real
thing, on any but the softest landings, it breaks into a bajillion
pieces (although without the nasty fireball).

The dat file's a bit different from the photos - the wings what I would have
liked to do in real life if I had the parts, and I also left out some
interior parts that can't be seen.

Hmmm...I'll have to take a look at it and see about building my own.
Actually, the Luftwaffe projects on my drawing board are the He162 and
the Hs132A--the jet divebomber where the pilot lay prone (prototypes
   only, naturally).

(...) Thanks Lindsay, I appreciate the comments. I was trying to get the wings a bit more accurate by sweeping them slightly, but it was way too flimsy. I might try it again one of these days. (...) Ha, good point :). I guess this one would be the (...) (23 years ago, 13-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.military)
