   Hello all,

This past year I’ve taken a break from Castle-building and have taken on modern military style MOCs, many of which were inspired by my stint in the Norwegian Army almost ten years ago. Military MOCs often end up a little too big for the figs scalewise, and I’ve done my best to minimize this, while maintaining/balancing functionality and playability. All of these models have space inside for figs to sit with the hatches completely closed; and working with that basic condition, I’ve built them as compactly as I could.

The Bulldog Medium Tank was my first attempt at building with the new dark green. The interior of the hull is six studs wide, but by using panels in the walls I have enough space for a six stud wide octagonal turret to rotate. This turret can be removed and replaced with an alternative top, transforming the vehicle into a spartan, though functional, APC with space for maybe four guys plus a gunner.

Nice hatch for the driver. The car doors as the shield on the APC are simple but effective. I really like the green pyramid on the main gun, but it might look better if you moved it back a couple of plates and lengthened the rest of the barrel.

And I know you’re going for a camo look with this one and the Badger, but all those colors together just doesn’t do it for me. But you know what they say about opinions...

The Badger Infantry Fighting Vehicle was inspired by a number of different Western IFVs. Initially I hoped to fit a squad of eight in, but there just wasn’t space this time. I can squeeze six troops in the back, but four or five (with equipment) is a much more comfortable fit. I’m not entirely happy with it aesthetically, but another turret design that looked a little smoother was too fragile. I figured this thing doesn’t really need to be pretty, and most of the time it’s doing it’s best to stay camoflagued anyway, as at WAMALUG’s Fall for Fairfax 2006 show (pic with the foliage attached).

This one is my favorite. The angles on the glacis and the rear hatch are nice.

The initial idea with the Modular Combat Vehicle was that it could be split in two and each half (maybe weighing 10 tons each) could be airlifted more easily than a 20 ton vehicle. I figure a configuration like this might also give it added all-terrain capacity, and I was a little inspired by the Swedish BV202-206 series of vehicles and also a few G.I.Joe/Cobra vehicles that I recall fondly.

The Maggot! I’ve been wanting to build something like that for ages.

The front part, which I call the tractor, has the powerplant and seats the driver and commander side by side. The rear part, in this case serves in an APC/IFV sort of capacity (with space for six troops in the back).

The Modular Combat Vehicle was envisioned as the first of a family of vehicles with various roles. I have yet to expand on the theme, but an artillery, missile launcher or even tank equivalent are all feasible, each using the same basic tractor.

I like it, but I think the front half needs a small gun, at least. The wheels would also look better in light gray. I’d like to see the other variants.

This is my first time using Brickshelf, so please let me know if I’m doing anything wrong :) I know that folders don’t become viewable at once, but hopefully they will be by the time this posts.

I’ve built some other similar MOCs that I may post soon, or maybe just wait to debut them officially at BrickFest. Right now, my main project is figuring out how to motorize something like this!

PLMKWYT!

thanks

Magnus

Great stuff, Magnus! I hope to see more military stuff from you. BTW, now that you’re on Brickshelf, you should post some pics of that Hind-style dropship you were showing at last year’s Fall for Fairfax.
