Hey guys,
It's been forever since I posted a mecha, but here goes. This is the one I
showed at BricksWest03. Most of you have probably seen it already but I did
post a few "official" pics recently.

A quick synopsis:
I wanted to fuse Bionicle with more traditional brick-based mecha building.
To that end I set out experimenting with Bionicle for about a year (I'll
explain all that later). The end result is this mecha/monster. It's almost
more of a demon type thing really.

Anyway the torso is made of all ball/socket joints joined together to make a
solid torso shape which does not articulate. There are no right angles to
speak of in the torso. I was trying to create a somewhat realistic
substructure on which to hang musculature and such.

The dragon body proper consists of click hinge formed octogons offset with
technic parts and connected to each other via technic turntables. Then the
whole structure has been "skinned" using Bionicle masks.

Overall I'm happy with the project with one exception. The hips, while
supporting all the weight, are a failure. Stresses on the screw gear cause
it to slip, thus making it impossible to fully extend the legs allowing the
creature to stand more upright. The result is what I term the "hunched over
chicken look".

As is normally the case with my models this one does not photograph well. I
am, however, taking more pictures and will post closeups and such soon.
