While it is certainly likely that someone thought of the idea of using Lego
minifig legs as arms before Karim, he is (to my knowledge) the first person
who actually published his idea in the form of a website or online photos;
as a result, the technique has been duplicated countless times by both
budding and seasoned mecha builders all over the world...which is why he
receives credit for "starting" the trend.
