here's the second mech i've built. it sort of started the whole
"articulation points" debate. i still don't know how many articulation
points there are. perhaps someone can lmk. gotta give credit to gla-gla
and sun yun for design inspirations as well as to chris snead for joint
tech. hope you like it.

category: military mech over 8 inches tall (10" from head to toe, 12" from
tip of gun barrel to toe).
back story:
"Briggs, get in here!"
I wonder how often I've heard those words. Counting would be futile. Col.
Sacks seemed to loathe and yet relish every time he saw me in his office.
Typically I frequented the old fart's self-named "prison" as a result of
some protocol infraction. Sometimes I wonder how I got as far as
"Major"--I'm sure the nickname "hotdog" had nothing to do with it. Being a
test pilot, you'd think I would be allowed some freedom to take the new
mechs and do things with them no one could think of. How was I to know that
pulling a "Vertigo" manuever while firing the jump jets screws up the gyros.
Thank God for ejection pods. That was an expensive test. If the engineers
would ever design a mech with me in mind, the government wouldn't have to
keep signing checks to pay for research and development. I guess the
colonel thought some "R &R" in the local brink would sober me up. I guess
he was wrong.
"How was your 'rest', Major?"
"It did the job, sir," I lied.
"Yeah, right. If it were entirely up to me, steel bars would be your
permanent picture frame to the outside world. Be that as it may, there are
others above me who feel your butt is somehow an asset to this outfit,
though God only knows why."
"I could only guess,sir."
He reached into his file cabinet, pulled out an olive green, standard
military folder, and gave it to me as if he were going to shove it down my
throat. I would have guessed it was my record, except for the
all-to-familiar red words stamped across its cover: "TOP SECRET". How
original. I felt like I was in an old 1960's spy movie.
"Apparently you're needed again to test another mech. Frankly, I would
prefer to give it to Major Rodriguez. At least she would treat it with
respect." He looked at me like my dad used to every time my kid brother
would blame me for something he screwed up. He's right, though. Rodriguez
is a smooth pilot: does everything by the book. She could be even better
if she loosened up a little. I thought our 2-year relationship would do
just that. Apparently it did the opposite.
"The transport is waiting for you outside. It will take you to the hangar
where the new mech prototype will be waiting for you. It has excellent
potential. Don't screw this one up. Your ego is signing checks your butt
can't cash." How cliche.
On the way I perused the file. "AV-05 'Gunjin'" was the name of the
prototype. After going over the specs, I knew what I was in for: one
helluva ride. It was a medium-class mech: about 14.2 meters in height,
146.4 metric tons, and a width of 7 meters at the shoulder. Not quite the
hefty size of a heavy-class mech, but definately not a scout. It's top
ground speed was 281.4 km/hr when jump jets are used. It's peak jumping
height was 61 meters with a hang-time of 5 seconds before landing. It's
armor was a titanium/boron alloy about 15.2 cm thick. It's backpack housed
an M9 "Infinity" nuclear power plant, radar/radio equipment, and pilot
supplies. Camera and sensor equipment were primarily housed in the"head".
But here's my favorite part: its twin 150 mm "Bullrush" semi-automatic
cannons, with kinetic energy/high explosive anti-tank (KE/HEAT) hybrid
rounds, packed enough punch to crush a tank and blow an appendage off any
light to medium armored mech. All in all, this thing was simply vexacious.
If it had a childhood past, it would have been the school bully.
As I entered into the hangar, the head engineer greeted me and led me to my
new toy. It's battleship- gray color was all too familiar and was
complemented by a dark blue chest, accented by a red cockpit access door.
As I peered into it's "face", I imagined it was smiling back at me.
"Ready for a test run?" asked the engineer. My only reply was a mile-wide
grin...

| WOW! Is this the same person building!?1? :-D I Can't believe it! This is crazy! Dang! This is the biggest leap in building skill within two mecha I have ever seen! | Wow. That's sweet. Btw, is there a Gundam influence in your designs? Not by the head, but more by the colour and leg design. Very impressive :) -Anne (...) | Jason Coronado, I must say that is a VERY SWEET mecha. You did an amazing job with that gla-glaish chasis. The legs are by far the nicest and most attractive section. The flat planes and angles look really nice. The head is very similar to the Zaku (...) (22 years ago, 16-Dec-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

| (...) Incredibly awesome entry. Kind of compact, yet imposing. I like how you included plenty of articulation to make it posable, provided, makes for a nice aspect to any mech, per se. Exemplary. Great job. Peace out, <<_Matt Hein_>> Fellow lego (...) (22 years ago, 16-Dec-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

| (...) Mechastruct is finally filling in. The Gunjin looks like a Zaku and an RX-79 got combined, with the RX's guns and colors, and a zaku chassis and armor style. Every time I look at one of these, it almost makes me want to scrap all my (...) (22 years ago, 16-Dec-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)
