I'm sorry, I really shouldn't bother you, but your excessive use of the
endangered exclamation mark has prompted us to take action.  You see, it is
our task -- nay, our sworn duty -- to preserve ASCII characters and words
that are in danger of overuse.  It will indeed be a day to hang our heads in
shame and weep, when we can no longer use our friend the exclamation point,
the singular "best ever", the noble and majestic "awesome", and the beloved
"cool".

So it is with heavy heart but a stout will that, starting today, we will
give the call to implement voluntary ASCII rationing.

Everyone, limit the use of exclamation points to three per sentence, and no
more than eight per message.  Consult a thesaurus to derive alternatives for
the more common adjectives.  If you need to, you can substitute the asterix
(*) for the at-risk characters, as recent preservation efforts have blessed
us with an abundance of these.

Please, do your part before the government tells you to do it, and we'll all
have a happy, exclamation mark-filled future.

Yours truly,
Jeremy H. Sproat, esq.

* Yes, indeed, a footnote -- I couln't bear to waste even an asterix.  If
you really need to express yourself using nine exclamation marks in a row,
please consider using a numeral one (1) for seven of them.  It looks a lot
like an exclamation mark, and most people won't tell the difference.

1.  Yes, indeed another footno---*  NO CARRIER
