That is quite a problem you have there. The immortal question to follow the
easy road, or plow through the boulders (legos in this case) and set the way
for those that follow. I myself, not at all new to this exact problem, have
little advice concerning 4 foot tall bipedal mecha, but I know some tricks
to scale-down the big stuff.
Try using the rubber-band and small motor method. You can use multiple bands
for a single motor making a sort of transmision in the center of the hand.
Then, set up the bands on each finger using the small half-stud axel rings,
or, the larger one with six holes, the kind you can find with tires.
just like this:

finger  finger  finger  finger
  ]       ]       ]       ]
(0)     (0)     (0)     (0)
  ]       ]       ]       ]
(0)     (0)     (0)     (0)
  ]       ]       ]       ]             (0)=r-band joint
-(0)-----(0)-----(0)-----(0)-O           O =gear
                 O-----------O
             ___@___
             [motor]
             [     ]
             [     ]
             -------

Sorry, the sketch is kinda rough, but it's not that bad. Just e-mail me if
you have any quiestions.

Hope that this helps.

string also works, but nots well.

Folks, I'm in a bit of a quandry. Traditionally I don't like "Claw Hands"
meaning the kind you see on a Submersable Sub or better know as Pinchers or
Grabers.

My problem: I'm making a Mid-Sized Technic Fig Scale Robotic Mecha.
(4ft.tall biped)

I have an issue with creating the right kind of hand for the Mech. I would
(of course)like to create the most humanoid hand possible. Trouble is the
size of a decent humanoid hand exceeds the scale I'm working on. (including
Mechancis and all)

Since the Mech will be fully Robotic, I want the hands to be functional and
you can't beat the old claws for a good grabbing hand.

I know it's a silly question, but SHOULD I DO IT???!!!

Ahh, I don't want to make a claw hand, but alas it may be the best
aplication for the job at (LOL) hand! psuedo FUT!! to .PUN

Look, will you guys think my widdle mecha would be cwool if I made it with
claw hands? I feel funny about it.

Thoughts?
