Ughh...those joints suck! I remember buying one of those megablocks mecha;
first of all, the darn thing wouldn't stay together; an arm kept falling off,
or some leg part, etc. The joints had three positions between zero and 90
degrees; they could have easily made it have more. The thing wouldn't stand in
any position other than straight up! I ended up giving the mecha away to
someone, as I was ashamed to be seen with such a thing. The only cool piece
they had was a 2x2 plate with studs on both ends...
As for Lego making mecha, I'm sure they will one day - maybe as soon as next
year. I don't care what Brad Justus said at Brickswest or Lugola; Lego is a
company, and it is trying to make money. Even moderately well designed mecha
would sell like hotcakes. It probably won't be a "mecha" line at first...maybe
it'll be the next "Alpha team" adventure set or something...or maybe it'll be a
"MOC" series mecha - that's why you've got to make at least one completely
original design, Sun! I know they would be knocking at your door (if they
haven't been already ;-) )
Later, Chris
