Thanks to the efforts of Mark Sandlin and Chirs, I've been inspired to build a light mecha. I have to flesh out the arms and built the legs. It should be finished later this week. After that, I'm going to work on my dragon. (...) (23 years ago, 29-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

(...) I've been working on a couple of things. Mostly, doing more R&D on joint systems. Here's a new (?) way to stiffen those 1x4 plate hinges: 1) Find yourself som wire. (...) How do you measure that kind of thing, anyway? I mean, I believe you, I do.... But that is a sweet idea. I've found that those hinges are (perhaps like all things) more fragile in their manufacture now than they were, oh, fifteen years ago. (...) (23 years ago, 29-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

I've found that putting paper between the two pieces stiffens the joint nicely. However, I suspect your method allows for a greater weight load. (...) (23 years ago, 29-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Very clever Dr. Snead! That little slit just needs that wire huh...interesting! Another anadote (sp?) from the Dr.! So, you were able to get those poses using that technique, pretty neat. Well, I was sick last week; and have been feeding my Lego needs in absence of work. Let's see after Black Eagle, Fire Cricket and the Ewok God got done I did some other stuff. There have been a lot of great examples of these recently (Mark Sandlin, Geordan, Mladen, Chris Maddison, etc.) which make me really want to try my hand at it. kool! I always liked your beginings of this drop squad. Fisrt off, great ideas should always be followed thru. I hope to see this completed, should be real cool. Thanks for the high praise. Sorry for the late reply; I've been preoccupied with my latest mecha. For my dragon, I've had the head, complete with working jaws, built for a couple of weeks.
