  Mystery Mech spotted

There's been an unidentified mech spotted. Take a look and see for yourself; (URL) there's more. You see I haven't come up with a good name yet and so I thought it might be fun to see what LUGNETters come up with. So e-mail me (...) (23 years ago, 25-Oct-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

(...) Mark, this is a great design! I'll have to get back to you on the name though...the immediate name that popped into my head was the 'Mantid'. I think that's due to the color, but at 4am, it's hard to be certain. :) Have a good one and keep on (...) (23 years ago, 25-Oct-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

(...) Mark -- that's a great design -- does it have an interior? Looks a smidge small for one, but I never write it off w/o asking. :) It looks very - Locust-like ala Battletech. I'd suggest Grasshopper but they're just small locust. ;) It's a sweet (...) (23 years ago, 25-Oct-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

(...) Naw, no interior, but I did think of it except that all the internals are what is holding the arms together. Also, I was keeping the wieght down so that the ball joints held up. (...) Yeah, that was the inspiration, especially with the arm (...) (23 years ago, 26-Oct-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

(Adam puts on his nerd hat) The Grasshopper is -considerably- larger than the Locust. 70t vs. 20t? The stats for it are here (...) (23 years ago, 26-Oct-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

I was comparing a real life grasshopper to a real life locust -- in which case grasshoppers are 'basically' a smaller version of the critters. :) I wasn't drawing a Mech-to-Mech comparison and (...)   Re: Mystery Mech spotted - OT

Who's talking mechs? You should -see- the size of our grasshoppers and locusts 'down under'. I'm thinking a 70t grasshopper may be a bit restrained actually. They crush cars, eat children, and certainly give the drop-bears a run for their money.... (...) (23 years ago, 26-Oct-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Mystery Mech spotted

(...) Actually, locusts ARE grasshoppers at a very specific time in their life: when they're swarming. In fact many grasshoppers exhibit changes in exoskeleton coloration due to release of pigments following a chemical signal. So there is really no (...) (...) <snipped> Oh, you were silly and amusing, IMO. I just lost your reply among other posts and so didn't reply. It sounds like you've the makings for a really good (read: BAD) monster movie... just think of all that revenue.... more LEGO to build (...) (23 years ago, 8-Nov-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

(...) I was referring to both, really.. his model looks quite a bit (to me anyway) like a Battletech Locust. I know there is a Grasshopper, too, but I brought it up because it was the first thing that came to mind due to the color of his mech. [see (...) (23 years ago, 8-Nov-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Ha! Well once I can figure out how to run the Vision Command under Win2k I just might have to start on one. Of course the saviour of the day will be a lance of BattleTech mocs... "Joel Jacobsen" <jacobsen@oar.net> wrote in message (...) (23 years ago, 19-Nov-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)
