Golion was a Godaikin toy. I was fortunate enough to have him as a kid; a
relative who was coompletely unaware of Voltron picked it up for me for my
birthday one year along with a couple other Godaikins. I had a real thing for
them as a kid; I still have them and watch eBay for more and dream about buying
them (unfortunately they go for a hefty sum, usually).

Yeah. Since I haven't seen anyone else mention it, the term usually applied to
things like this is "gestalt". The Constructicons, for example, formed a
"gestalt".

No, a lot of people refer to these types of things as Giant Robots or Super
Robots rather than Mecha.
