The idea of the project is to build a large war-torn city to use as a diorama to display Lego Mecha at BrickFest 2007. (Yes we know it hasn’t been announced but have faith that something will happen.)

BrickFest PDX has!

And one note: why use black for the raised roads and not dark bley? Since the roadplates are dark bley they would match up better, and you could save brick by just building 7 brick + 2 plate supports and laying the roadplates across the top. Dark bley bricks aren’t that hard to come by...I’m sure one Fire Nation Ship alone would be good for 2-3 sections...

The main reason I choose black bricks and light blay tiles was the fact that you can get these parts from the Pick-a-brick at most Lego stores. Yes, dark blay would look better, but because the road section use a lot of parts, I figured it would work to everyone advantage whoever wanted to build raised road sections. I built three road sections with a large cup of 1x4 black bricks and a large cup of 2x2 light blay tiles and had half a cup of tile and about a quarter of a cup of black brick remaining. This plus a small cup of 2x8 bricks and 4x8 plates along with a tub of Duplo made about 95% of what you see in the examples. If you would like to build some section in dark blay, please go ahead. Real cities have different color asphalt. Plus, I think it would be a great addition to the MCP City.

The main reason for the road section is to allow creative design in the roads. Since the majority of Mecha battles will take place on streets within the MCP City, raised streets would allow you to be more artistic with the battle dioramas. I.e. craters, broken asphalt, crashed Mecha, whatever your mind can conceive. Check out 13th pic from top. Using just a mire roadplate or a roadplate raised up would not allow you to do as much craters and wholes in the ground.

Here is how I in vision the raised road section of the MCP City. Each raised road section is like a building. Have it tell a story just like a blown out building would.
