I like Heavy Gear, because it has very utilitarian designs, like real military
vehicles and mecha will look like in the "near future". Of course, the same can
be said for Gundam, but they are more like what military vehicles and mecha
will look like in the "distant future". Still, I just love adding external fuel
tanks to everything I build, it just makes things look more realistic.
--- Styles ---
Heavy Gear:
- small head, one eye
- bulky shoulders, arms and legs
- rear mounted wheels/treads on feet
- huge, conical "V-engines" on back
- rather squat appearance
- few internal weapons, sometimes...
- can work in space, with modification
Gundam:
- huge feet
- long legs
- a lot of internal weapons, sometimes...
- more proportionate head, two eyes
- huge, outward-extending, "wing-like" shoulders
- unproportionate torso, compared to legs
- tall, humanoid appearance
- space friendly; lots of thrusters
- forward opening torso hatch (I think?)
Patlabor:
- small head, one eye, and usually with antenna
- forward opening torso hatch, on most models
- very quick and agile
- no lasers, except on military models
- no internal weapons
- not too tall, 4+ metres tall
- only work on ground, and sometimes underwater
- kind of utilitarian
- use mostly machine-guns, shotguns, military use missiles
Please correct any false statements.
