I was wondering what became of the head, until I discovered the pic of it half submerged in the stream. :-) It was fun exploring this diorama. The vegetation is great, as well as the terrain contours and how the mecha was posed,“laid to rest”. I think the bigger trees were felled during the battle (hence the stumps). I’d estimate that’s 50 to 100 years of regrowth, given the size of the trees.

This reminds me of finding giant glacial boulders in the woods, though they are covered with lichen and moss after a few thousand years. I’ve seen man-made artifacts that still look pristine after decades in the woods, bottles, ceramics. Abandoned Ford Model Ts turn into barely recognizable rust piles. It depends on the material.

The only element missing is a cave, deep in your landscape cross section, a place to put a sleeping bear, or a mutant underdweller. :-)

The wolves are waiting until sunset to strike. Sometimes a camp fire is enough to keep them at bay. But these men surely know to sleep lightly and keep their guns by their sides...

ps. Eventually, after further human de-evolution, a primitive tribe will build a temple pyramid around the Sentinel, to preserve and protect it as an idol for grisly rituals, the outstretched hand a sacrificial altar.

New theme and new creation: Forest Sentinel

Thanks to Stephen King's Dark Tower series, I got it in my mind to build a post-apocalyptic theme that was basically dioramas of wrecked, destroyed, or nonfunctioning equipment, as is found frequently in the book series. I dubbed the theme Dust to (...) (18 years ago, 28-Feb-06, to lugnet.announce.moc, lugnet.space, lugnet.build.mecha, FTX) !!
