LOVE IT. (19 years ago, 10-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Re: Welcome to the Building Arena, IRON MECHA

(...) Perhaps it's a giant bee hive. Though containing no giant bees, it scares the enemy with the implied threat of serious swelling and allergic reactions, particularly if the hive is disturbed. "Don't fire at it! You'll make the bees angry!" :-) (...) (19 years ago, 10-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

Re: IRON MECHA - leg test

(...) I also made a prototype with knee worm gears, but I wanted to find at least one effective use for the AT-AT knees (my previous uses were... ineffective). Total worms = 4 legs + 2 shoulders = 6 K (19 years ago, 10-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

In lugnet.build.mecha, Christopher Snead wrote: "worm gear driven turntable" Very tidy. I'm sure I'll use that technology at some point in the future. "biped worm gear mecha frame" Ready to strike a pose (that highlights its magnificence). The leg (...) (19 years ago, 10-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Re: Welcome to the Building Arena, IRON MECHA

It may be difficult to see how that came to be this but I swear they are almost identical structurally. I still don't know what to do about that weird pod thing on the left arm. What is it supposed to be anyway? Missiles? Some sort of claw? Sensor (...) (19 years ago, 10-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

Re: A little robot from leftover parts

(...) That ROCKS! The oil-cans-connected-to-the-elbow is so ingenious! The overall bot looks kinda like a mix of the 'Iron Giant' & 'Bender' from Futurama in a cool little package. Great job! Jeff (19 years ago, 10-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

  Worm gear driven turntable

So I've been working on various wormgear combinations over the past week or so, and I came up with something that might be of use to folks: (URL) like the technic geared turntables, but they are a bit big. So I thought it would be nice to have a (...) (19 years ago, 10-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha) !

Re: IRON MECHA - leg test

(...) Sweet! I really like the way you concealed the worm gear joints in the legs. I guess I couldn't tell before whether or not worm gears were used in you model - I would have been a little disppointed if they weren't ;-) Later, Chris (19 years ago, 10-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

A little robot from leftover parts

This is IML-01, known as Immel (in Asimovian tradition). He was built out of my Iron Mecha leftover parts and ideas. (URL) Let me know what you think! Derek (19 years ago, 10-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.announce.moc, FTX) !!

  IRON MECHA - leg test

(URL) spindly legs> I attached the leg prototypes to see if the joints were strong enough. (URL) under compression> I had to beef up the thigh worm joint a bit with a longer shaft and more bushings. If you look closely you can also see that the axle (...) (19 years ago, 10-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)
