So I thought it would be nice to have a more compact worm gear driven turntable for smaller models. the 8 tooth gear is driven by two worm gears, which are coupled by the two 16 tooth gears. It's done in such a way as to eliminate the slop in the worm gears - this is a very tight and solid mechanism. I've been seriously sidetracked from the Iron Mecha contest, as I've always wanted to build a biped worm gear mecha frame, and I feel like this one is falling in place almost effortlessly: http://brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1567092 I'll try and get back on track tonight... There appear to be four 4 x 4 plates that fit over the small turntable and are wedged against the axle so as to form a surface that spins with the axle. When I try this, the plates do not fit.
