Seeing as how I'm not super internet speed savvy is there anyone who knows why
.mecha takes to much longer?

I asked Todd about this a few years ago.

He assured me that the page loads just as fast as other newsgroups.
Really it does load slow. Always has.

I think it has to do with the newsgroups placement as a sub group of .build.

I once tried an experiment with Mark (my co-curator).
We CUT all of the code from the sidebar and left a clean page with nothing on
it.

Then cleared our browsers and re-attempted the page access. It still loaded
slowly.

So the thumbnails are not exactly part of the problem. I thought it had to do
with the bandwidth allocation or something to the .build sub group hierarchy
database.

Keep in mind. .mecha has more posts than all the other sub newsgroups in .build
combined.

(yay us)

Still loads slow.

When Mark Sandlin created the Nav Icons (thank you Mark) I am sure he took care
to make them compressed.

The other images (thumbnails) hardly add up to a single large size image.
Though gathering the transcluded images probably adds a moment to the load time.

Even with the code (all images and text on the sidebar) removed, accessing this
sub newsgroup of .build still took just about the same amount of time.

Not sure what is really going on.

When I use broadband or dial up, it still takes a moment to load.
Access speed is not the issue, it is in pulling the info from the database in a
sub newsgroup that holds up the load time.
