Thanks. I wanted to build something new for last weeks MichLUG meeting and I decided that I wanted to see what I could do with sand green. Dark red is next on my list...

The legs are also pretty nifty, and remind me of Robotech designs.

After I came up with the modular scheme, I built four Robotech mechs to see if it was really flexible enough... so that no doubt influenced my building a lot.

Hmmm... I don’t know what to think about those weird blades in place of the hands, but the rest is very good.

Actually, maybe this is just me, but when I first built it I had a heck of a good time turning those arms some and just doing slashing motions... In BrickMech you’ve got short range, long range, and melee weapons, and those things seemed to me like they could be both melee and some kind of range...

I think the legs should be placed farther apart and perhaps given some sideways motion.

I definitely need to work on legs. I’d like to get some kind of hip motion in, but keeping the feet within the 8x8 base (which is important for the game) and mounting the legs securely so that a non-AFOL gamer can move them around safely are pretty big constraints... Still, I do need to play with that.

I think you pics are fine, but you need a better backdrop for your work. Perhaps an upturned baseplate or a white/black sheet?

I have a bunch of white posterboard that I intend to make into a coved backdrop... it’s a dual issue of time to do it and space to store it (although I’m sure I could neaten up a few things and make a storage space).

Thanks for your feedback!

I’m sure a number of mech builders here could teach me quite a bit. For those who aren’t familiar with it, this is my modular specification:

I know the Iron Mech competition is just getting kicked off, but when that’s finished would there be any interest in a BrickMech competition, if I put up a prize for it? I don’t know how interested people would be in building to these constraints...

(...) Hi Peter, First of, thanks for posting this. It's a refreshing break from all the bickering. :-) (...) I really like the interchangeable parts thing you got going.
