Silicon tape should work well. You can findn it in the plumbing section of a
hardware store. It is a white tape (no sticky) about 3/8" wide. It is very
stretchy and will conform very tightly to any shape. It's used on the threads
of pipe for gas lines. It provides a more perfect seal.
