Greetings! This post marks several firsts for me, my first LUGNET post, my
first Brickshlef folder, and my first mech! Anyway, here is Gladius, a
heavy assault mech:

Wow, thanks!

That picture is so amazingly cool, its super uber x2 to the fith power,
element and viscosity that lead to thermal break down, is are belongs, owns
and was, excepting, in the most complimentry way otherwise, that gear on the
upper leg makes me sob *cough, the Mech is so, very kugot. (cool) -Woody

Gladius sports the following features:
- Stands approximately 14 tall.
|
Nice size.
|
- Large air intakes (those heavy mechs get hot)!
|
Dig it.
|
- Antenna array for communications and targeting.
|
Tight fit.
|
- 2 adjustable missile pods with 25 missiles apiece (reach out and touch someone!).
|
Shown with optional Oh my Gawd #5 rack style, and EZ-rider rifle rack.
|
- Pulse laser cannon mounted on right arm (be the light of your enemies life!).
|
Cool, how you wraped the tube around the barrel.
|
- 4 barrel Gatling gun w/ ammo drum mounted on left arm (for when you absolutely have to kill every motherf****r in the room!). I especially like this gun, it incorporates a knob on the back and gearing inside so the barrels will turn when the knob is spun.

Ha ha.

I am fairly new to this hobby, this is my largest and most detailed project
to date. It was a great learning experience for me. I constantly found
myself running out of required pieces, but hey, that just helps spur
creativity right? I also was able to try out lots of different techniques,
this MOC is simply covered in SNOT (ewwww;). For example, the torso is
almost completely SOB (partly out of necessity, partly just to try it).
|
Hey that is great to hear, congrats indeed.
|
Thanks for all the compliments, Ive certainly been admiring your mechs for
quite a while now as well.
|
A couple of questions:
What was it like for you to build the hips?
|
This was actually somewhat tricky just because I really didnt have any examples
to base it of off. Hips and shoulder joints are almost always obscured by the
rest of the mech, I looked at quite a few different mechs but I couldnt get a
good idea of how these joints went together. By contrast, leg and arm joints are
relatively easy to figure out from pictures. Im fairly happen with the design
I came up with, it has no friction or gearing but doesnt really require it.
|
What was it like for you to build the ankles?
|
Fun, although it took a long time and many, many failed designs before I settled
on what you see. Actually, thats probably true for most of the mech. I am in
awe of your record building times, 12 days for
THIS!
|
What sort of parts did you have to get that most helped build the Mech?
|
As I mentioned in another post, that would have to be 4
gear packs from LEGO.
I am now completely out of worm gears, so no more geared mechs for a while.
Actually, several portions of my collection (particularly technic pieces) were
decimated by this mech.
Other than the torture of having to wait for the parts to arrive?
|
|
Ive been lurking on this group for several months now. Id like to thank
everyone who posts here for inspiration, Ive probably taken a little bit
from all of you. Id like to especially credit Mark Neumann, as the
resident master of chicken leg mechs he probably provided the most
inspiration to me (Hammer in particular). Other inspiration came from
Battletech mechs, especially
Mad Cat.
Anyway, hope you like it. Comments and criticism welcome!
|
Cool project. Glad to see it worked out. What are you going to build next?
|
Well, as I said large geared mechs are on hold until I bulk up my collection
more and/or take this guy apart (which I wont do for a little while yet). In
the meantime Ill probably build a few smaller mechs with click hinge and click
rotation joints, although I kinda prefer the geared style now. Im also getting
obsessed with building a mass driver
moonbase module using Hailfire droid wheels
as the acceleration coils. And a cargo spaceship using
Toa Metru case lid spheres as cargo
cannisters, or a solar sail propelled
spaceship using reflective mylar sheet (not 100% pure I know) as the sails,
or... well you get the idea. I am mostly limited by my small collection at this
stage of my hobby. I long for the day when Ill have enough bricks to build
whatever I can dream of, although I suspect that day will never come, my dreams
will just get bigger!
Thanks again for replying!
