Greetings! This post marks several firsts for me, my first LUGNET post, my first Brickshlef folder, and my first mech! Anyway, here is Gladius, a heavy assault mech:

(Click image for folder after moderation)

Gladius sports the following features:
  • Stands approximately 14” tall.
  • Large air intakes (those heavy mechs get hot)!
  • Antenna array for communications and targeting.
  • 2 adjustable missile pods with 25 missiles apiece (reach out and touch someone!).
  • Pulse laser cannon mounted on right arm (be the light of your enemies life!).
  • 4 barrel Gatling gun w/ ammo drum mounted on left arm (for when you absolutely have to kill every motherf****r in the room!). I especially like this gun, it incorporates a knob on the back and gearing inside so the barrels will turn when the knob is spun.
I am fairly new to this hobby, this is my largest and most detailed project to date. It was a great learning experience for me. I constantly found myself running out of required pieces, but hey, that just helps spur creativity right? I also was able to try out lots of different techniques, this MOC is simply covered in SNOT (ewwww;). For example, the torso is almost completely SOB (partly out of necessity, partly just to try it).

I’ve been lurking on this group for several months now. I’d like to thank everyone who posts here for inspiration, I’ve probably taken a little bit from all of you. I’d like to especially credit Mark Neumann, as the resident master of chicken leg mechs he probably provided the most inspiration to me (Hammer in particular). Other inspiration came from Battletech mechs, especially Mad Cat.

Anyway, hope you like it. Comments and criticism welcome!

(...) ?Cha! Is there any doubt I would? Rock on Tim, way to come out with a bang! You got a great mechwarrior feel here. The colors are good and the scheme of it feels gooo...oood. I kind of feel the radar dish inbetween the missle racks is a little (...) (20 years ago, 31-Jan-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

(...) snip That's a heck of a debut, Tim. Let me be the first (and only) poster to complain about the inadequacy of Gladius' missile load-out. Who are you trying to impress with a measly pair of 25-tube launchers? I'm kidding of course. Seriously, I (...) (20 years ago, 1-Feb-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

(...) Pardon me for beeing so late! Welcome to .mecha. It's only a few days I posted my first mech here, getting a fantastic and warm welcome. So I feel a bit strange writing this right now. (...) I rarely comment on mechs or mecha around here, but I have to break my vow of silence. I was an old-school battletech player, and my favorite was the Catapult. When the clan books first came out, I couldn't wait for a Mad Cat figure and so I (...) (20 years ago, 3-Feb-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

Tim, this is an amazing way to enter the world of mecha. I see the Mad Cat influence, but this is far nicer than any Mad Cat I've ever seen pics of. The colorscheme pulls together nicely, and the lack of a greebled torso works quite nicely. All in (...) (20 years ago, 3-Feb-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

(...) Tim, This Mech is EYE-CANDY. Everytime I come to .mecha, I have to click on the picture. Great job! You should talk to Tim (the other Tim) at Used Brick Liquidators to make up a kit of these Mechs and sell them. (20 years ago, 4-Feb-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)
