Hi Brian! One thing youll notice that is different between ball joint and gear
driven mechs is the range of motion using gears is very linear. That being the
case, balance will now be a larger factor in building than it ever was before.
My personal recommendation would be to shoot for 15 inches tall as a maximum and
8 inches minimum to get a feel for how the gearing works. Typically, the more
gears you can use, the greater the range of motion available to you, but this is
not always the case.
For a first mech, that is one sweet creation! I like the hunkering down feel I
get from viewing it. Even though the legs seem a bit thin to me, Id still give
it thumbs up, design-wise. Youve done an excellent job pushing the
weight-bearing limits of the ball joints.
build well,
-Dave

I have been working on arm and hip joints to allow the gear-driven Mech to have "almost" the same motion (x,y and z axis) as the ball and joint model. (...) With this being (...)
