Ah the ever popular "gestalt" transformer.

I've thought about it, but I haven't attempted in recent times.

I've just started gathering and trading parts to attempt
one (Thanks, Mike Fetsko!)... but don't hold your breath,
as I'm only just still gathering parts for it so it's a
long while off. Having said that, other people have
definitely tried gestalt merge transformers; Joel
Kuester's Future Brick comes to mind (Under the
Transformers section... yes, the same one with that
Awesome Jetfire... he has a gestalt merger of a red
truck, blue dragster and a tank (of course each one
transforms as well).

Perhaps I should.... hmmmm.  Transforming Lego models are problematic in and
of themselves simply because they tend to become rather fragile.  See the
Pandora in the mecha section of my website. It turned out rather well, for a
transforming mecha, but it still wasn't the most stable.
I'd have to agree; I've made one Lego Transformer; and
although it's perfectly stable in either vehicle or mecha
mode, pieces tend to fall off during the transformation
if you don't know exactly where to hold him (usually the
detail bits that are just added on for looks are held on
rather flimsily). I wish I could create one where just
anyone could pick it up and transform it without breaking
it (whereas with mine I have to tell people specifically
where the structural points are)

On the other hand, it IS Lego. If a piece falls off, oh
well. Snap it back on.

(...) Hrm... link? I've been there before, but I don't recall such a thing. I'm sure I'd remember it if I had seen it. Darn. (...) That's sort of how my Pandora was. It was farily sturdy in either mode, but no one but me could handle it. :^P (...) (...) (24 years ago, 22-Jul-00, to lugnet.build.mecha)
