The origins of the Blacktron Amada are difficult to trace. While it has been
known for some time that the earliest Blacktron ships were merely modified
Galaxy Explorer-class ships, it is quite a leap from that Classic Space-era
technology to the brilliant engineering of the legendary Blacktron Renegade- and
Battrax-class vehicles.

What kinds of vehicles the Blacktrons built during this transition has been
unknown - until now. Recently declassified documents prove the existence of at
least one transition-era vessel - dubbed the "Vengance"-class.

The engineering ingenuity that is the trademark of Blacktron shipbuilders is
apparent even in this early design. While retaining some characteristics of
earlier ships, it also displays most of the features that became the hallmark of
later Blacktron ships: modular construction, variable flight geometry, and
multi-function components. A robot (to assist in reconfiguration) and a small
rover are standard equipment.

Vengance-class ships could be configured for a wide range of roles: light
freighter, troop lander, bomber, long-range and high-altitude reconissance, VIP
shuttle, heavy fighter, even armored ground car. In spite of this versatility,
few Vengance-class ships were produced before being superseded by more advanced
craft.

______________

The real story:

I own no Blacktron sets. The only trans-yellow parts I have come from my by
beloved Galaxy Explorer (are you listening Lego Direct?) so the design is sort
of a combination of Blacktron and Classic Space. All of the printed pieces
(including minifig torsos) are homemade stickers.

Possibly a category V, but more likely a VII (I have no idea wahat the piece
count is - probably over 400 tho...)

I've not had time to post responses to most of the entries, but there are some
good-looking models out there!

Man, black is a pain to photograph well.

LMKWYT!

Thanks - Paul

(...) I really like the background info in your post. In my world, it is also true that early BT1 craft (known as Darknians) were based on the designs of earlier vehicles. It's too bad we couldn't have a catagory in the contest for the submission (...) (23 years ago, 20-Dec-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build.contests)

(...) hand (your glass solution). And the color scheme is spot-on. The modularity looks suspiciously akin to the ship you entered in the classic space contest last year... not that I'm faulting you. It makes for a wonderful model and is very (...) (23 years ago, 21-Dec-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build.contests)
