I got a scanner for my birthday on March 9 and I'm now getting around to
posting my pics of a suspension bridge I built nearly 8 years ago!  This is
my first attempt at putting something on BrickShelf.

Way cool! The towers sort of look Oakland-Transbay-ish to me.... That's an
amazing bridge. Thanks for sharing!

I wonder if it's longer than the PNLTC/Guinness Znap bridge?

Larry,

The overall length may be longer.  But the record may be the main span -  or
length between any two supports.  In that case my suspension bridge falls
short of the record.  I'm sorry I don't have the exact figures at hand for
the PNLTC/Guiness Znap bridge but I know which bridge you're talking about.

There's some info on Wayne's ZNAP bridge here

A suspension bridge can easily beat any other bridge type for main span
record.

Agreed.

Of course, the addition of non-LEGO elements such as the cables (rope) and
the weights serving as the anchorages may be an unfair advantage in some
eyes.

Well, the only non-LEGO on my arch bridge was the Aussie flags!

Perhaps it should be in a separate catagory.  I feel it's possible to
build a suspension bridge with almost unlimited main span as long as the
cables can support it.  Wind would be a factor, but that would be a factor
with any bridge type.

Probably more important, a given increase in length probably requires less
increase in bricks for a suspension bridge, making it much more *affordable* to
make it longer...

Your bridge is very impressive!!!  I have viewed your Sidney Harbour Bridge
previously through surfing the web.  I like how you have minifigs making the
trip across the arch - something I'd like to do someday, but only when they
allow you to bring a camera along.  I hope someday I can come as close to
your detail level in my future endeavors, but I'm a basic brick builder for
now and don't have the eye, skill, nor elements for modeling specific
structures.  I'm content to viewing what you pro AFOL's can accomplish!

Take Care,

Patrick
