Thanks, Im pretty happy with the new look. Easier to read, and hopefully a
little nicer to look at. I also dispensed with the two letter abbreviations for
the books of the Bible. When I started the project, I mistakenly thought that
these two letter abbreviations were standardized and would not cause any
confusion. But turns out thats not correct, and its not like the full names
of the books take up a whole lot of extra space.
|
Izban, Elon, and Abdon - Hmm, not a lot here. Not sure why you chose to
illustrate this.
|
I didnt want to leave any judges out of the book of Judges, I suppose.
|
Samson is Born - Whats the lobster bib in the first pic?
|
Its apparently some Belville accessories.
|
I really like the blue/white studless room in 13:1, very striking.
|
Thanks. I built that thinking it would get used again as the temple that Samson
pulls down in the later story, but now Im thinking I may build something else
for that. But I was pleased how that photo turned out with the view of a
microscale town out the door.
|
I assume from before that
Samsons moms hair and his hair/beard piece are some sort of prototype
elements and therefore official, but personally I dont really like the
look of either of these elements. However, I know its hard to keep creating
identifiable characters with a limited number of piece desings.
|
Thats basically the case. I patiently await the day LEGO puts out some gray
female hair.
|
I like that
Manoah is hiding in the bushes while his wife talks to the angel. Also her
dropping the sausage is funny.
|
I combined two separate visits of the angel of Yahweh into one for this story.
The first time the angel comes, he only speaks to the wife. But the second
time, Manoah offers him the food, so I didnt want Manoah to totally show up out
of nowhere. :)
|
In 20-21, is that angel supported by
something other than the flames? I didnt think the flame-flame connection
could bear that much weight.
|
Apparently it can. I didnt know how I was going to suspend the angel, but then
I tried just carefully placing him on the flames and it worked. :)
I didnt remember how insane Samson is until I re-read these stories. There
werent too many other faces to choose from that really captured that. My
girlfriend suggested that Samson only have the red eyes when the spirit of
Yahweh comes upon him. Thats kind of a cool idea (Dont make me possessed by
the spirit of Yahweh... you
wouldnt like me when Im possessed by the spirit of Yahweh.), but I tend to
feel that Samson acts crazy even when hes not in the act of killing people.
|
Mass Murder - Very cool lion!
|
Thanks! I looked to your
Brick Built
Beasts collection for inspiration first, but then decided to have my own go at
it.
|
Other build details that I really like are the
sort of torch things in the dining hall and the blue technic axels in gray
axel-holes as wall details in Samsons house. My favorite moment is So, do
you like, um, stuff? Samson is so suave.
|
Samson is in good comapny on
that one. :)
|
Arson - Verse 1, Not really the master of subtlety, is he? :)
|
I love that he brings the goat over and says that.
|
I like your jackal solution.
|
Heh, I think they look kind of cool, even if forcing those heads over the cat
heads is not exactly a standard LEGO connection. I just wish I had more cats
and wolf heads to work with.
|
I probably would have used antennas for the grain field, as
the stacks of 1x1 rounds are a little thick.
|
Ive seen that done very nicely before,
but sadly when I counted up my inventory of tan antennas, there were only about
twelve total. So I had to come up with a different solution or place a
Bricklink order and wait for it to arrive. (If Id known the site was going to
be down for two weeks, I may have done the latter!)
|
The black burnt field is
particularly effective for some reason.
|
Lots of things burn in the Bible. I wasnt sure if my illustrations captured
the scope of Samsons act of arson. Due to not having many jackals nor all
that much grain it was hard to give the impression that Samson was burning the
crops of (all or at least many) of the Philistines, as the Bible states. I was
tempted to show a larger swath of destroyed fields, but I also wanted to capture
how the destruction would have effected individual Philistine farming families.
I still cant get over Steve De Craemers slope-brick rock walls (not to mention
the castle walls atop them) from Brickfest. Just jaw-dropping. It was
definitely an inspiration for the rocky cave at Etam.
|
Slaughter - Vs 9 - Those hairpieces make me feel lost in the 80s, btw.
|
The Philistines are all about the 80s... the 1080s... BC!!! :)
|
Im not a fan of the water spray. To me it looks more
like the Sarlaac or some other alien animal living underground with lots of
tentacles and stuff. I suppose trans-blue flames wouldnt look like a huge
fountain, though.
|
Youre right, theres probably a better way I could have done the water gushing
from the ground. :/
|
Anyway, looking forward to the scene where Samson brings the house down.
|
Thats coming up next...
Thanks for the comments,
-Brendan

| Hey Rev, Awesome! I'd been wondering when the next installment would come. I like the new background, BTW. Izban, Elon, and Abdon - Hmm, not a lot here. Not sure why you chose to illustrate this.
