  Temple of Zeus at Olympia

I have built a minifig scale model of the Temple of Zeus, the building housing the Statue of Zeus by Pheidias. The statue itself is considered one of the seven Wonders of the ancient world, built in the fifth century BC. Although it was the building (...)   Re: Temple of Zeus at Olympia

(...) In 2001 I was at Olympia, in the workshop, and on (what was left of) Zeus's Temple. If you'd like some pictures I could send them to you. In the meantime, very nice model, but the columns are all upright. :) Brian (21 years ago, 7-Jul-03, to lugnet.build.ancient)

Wow. Thanks for showing us. I like the massive, bricky columns. Shows that squares are the way to go! I went looking for details on Pheidias (lost) statue. Could you tell a little bit about how you designed yours? -Erik (21 years ago, 8-Jul-03, to lugnet.build.ancient)

There is an artist's rendition of the statue on page 65 of the book. I imposed a LEGO brick-shaped grid over the (...) (21 years ago, 10-Jul-03, to lugnet.build.ancient)

Re: Temple of Zeus at Olympia

(...) Wow, that must have been something to stand on the site itself. It would be great to see your photos. I've seen a few photos on the web of the ruins, but the resolution was low (or the pictures were small). It would be interesting to also (...) (21 years ago, 10-Jul-03, to lugnet.build.ancient)

Re: Temple of Zeus at Olympia

(...) Ah. Martin Jessop Price was recently biographied in Celator. I've always thought it would be fun to have a Pausanias minifig traveler visit whatever people build... There is a "Pausanias" book called Ancient Coins Illustrating Lost (...) (21 years ago, 11-Jul-03, to lugnet.build.ancient)

Re: Temple of Zeus at Olympia

(...) Sorry for the delay. Life intrudes like that sometimes! (Trying to get a job takes priority.) Yes, it was amazing to be there. During our 2 week trip we were at 3 of the seven wonders of the ancient world sites (the other 2 were The Colossus (...) (21 years ago, 19-Jul-03, to lugnet.build.ancient)

Re: Temple of Zeus at Olympia

(...) My pictures from my trip to Olympia Greece are now up on a link off of my main page: (URL) There are 46 thumbnailed images, with commentary and links to full size images (1024x768), covering the entire site at Olympia. I've also got about 600 (...) (21 years ago, 20-Jul-03, to lugnet.build.ancient)
