I finally finished this truck after working on it for a couple hours almost
every day for a week and a half.  The truck is approximately the same scale as
my 8 wide cars.  Before you mention that it's all studs up, look closer at
parts of the front grill, the fuel tanks, the spare tire holder, and a few
other spots...IMO, the key to successful SNOT is subtlety :)  The front wheels
are steerable, but they're not geared to any steering mechanism.

G'day Bram,

Wow, that's a wicked model!  I especially like the details you put
into the trailer doors..., I can say they're very realistic as
that's the view of a rig that I most see on the highway!  ;]

My only two comments are:
- the wheel size doesn't seem to fit with the scale of the model---
they're too small.  The axles seem to be on the proper spacing,
just need bigger wheels.  But I know LEGO doesn't give us a lot
of choices.  If looks as if the whole model were 1 stud narrower
in scale, these wheels would work well.  I think the wheels on
the trailer would work well in your current scale if you built a
low-deck trailer (e.g., a moving van).
- The TECHNIC axles sticking out of the wheels of the trailer
and rear of the tractor look a little odd.  They seem to be too
long.  If they could end just about flush with the TECHNIC
bushing in there I think it would look better.  The front
wheels look perfect, with the lugnuts all visible out past
the edge of the tire just as in reality.

Just my 2 cents..., a great model in all!  When will we see a
flat-bed version with a backhoe on it?  ;]

Actually, now that I look at it, I think the trailer could be
higher.  I'm trying to visualize the cab with an air deflector
mounted on top, which are normally very high, and it seems the
trailer should be a fair bit higher.  Maybe it should even be
1 stud wider..., I'm having trouble telling which is wider,
the trailer, or the tractor with its stacks.

Amazing!  :]

(...) Heheh, I just drove to Pittsburgh and back last weekend, so I had plenty of chances to stare at the back of trailers and examine the location of the lights, reflectors, etc. (...) I agree. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a size wheel (...) (23 years ago, 19-Aug-01, to lugnet.build)
