Interesting story, I guess with any big company there would be many
different positions. Working on the Graphic design area would be a very cool
job. TLC has always had great graphics.

My take is that TLC is so huge and foriegn owned that it's hard to get in,
plus every kid that grew up building Lego wants in, so I bet there's alot of
competition.

One other thing, sometimes I think a person like myself; making giant Robots
and showing them all over at art shows and community events is doing Lego a
bigger service than if I were to work for them. I'm giving TLC tons of
publicity. People have often said to me "do you work for Lego" or "Lego
should pay you to show your Robots because your givving them publicity" and
"if Lego knew how many kids went out and brought Lego form seeing you
robots, they should give you a cut of the profits" Hey I show my Creations
for many reasons, IMHO, I really don't do it for personnal gain, just
personnal satisfaction.

I spent $500 getting ready for the Regur show:

...but I made $250 from a contact off that show when I was invited to bring
my  Robot to Chelsea HS to show the students what Lego can do in their
Mindstorms class:

A question for all of you that I'm interested in knowing: We all like Lego
here, but does that mean you would work for them?

Good question.

As a master builder (not that they would have me)? No. I build in my way,
and that probably wouldn't work for what they need to have done. The only
caveat to that is: All those pieces...(insert Homer Simpson drooly sound here).

As a graphic designer (my bag)? Oh heck yeah! I really enjoy creating
LEGO-like graphics for my MOCs and all, and I could definately see myself
doing it officially. Also, reference my fonts (and the finally upcoming
final Brick'n'Brack site). I could totally work in the creative arena for
LEGO (Brad? Tomas? Are you listening?)

In merchandising? I have worked for two toy stores in my time, and while at
T'R'U I claimed the LEGO asile for my own (hey, this was 13 years ago, right
out of high school). I did such a great job keeping the asile up, when the
local LEGO merchandiser was going to be promoted, he tried to get me the
position (included a brand new car of my choice...I was SO excited!). Some
VP's nephew/son/whatever got the job instead, and royally f'd it up. He was
fired within 8 months, but by then I had gone to Nebraska for school, so I
couldn't pick up the position. So yeah. I'd do that.

(...) That's an interesting point. Other companies have evangelists, basic Joe Fan-Boy types to go out and spread the word (though Apple, the best ones at this, have since disbanded the practice, except for Demo Days, where anyone who wants too can (...)
