Jason,
It is possible to connect baseplates into a larger structure, you just
can't attach to the bottom of the baseplate, as you said. You can
attach to the top of the baseplates... If you build a wall that is at
least 2 wide, and is larger than the baseplate by (at least) one stud in
each direction, you can then build a layer of regular plates around the
edge of this wall and place the baseplate inside it. When you do that,
the base plate is sitting on top of the studs of the lower wall, and
that brings it up to exactly the height of the plates, so you can then
build on top of the plates, locking the baseplate in place.
Words fail me sometimes, here's a quick render showing the basic idea:

I just happened to be playing with MLCAD, L3P and POV-RAY on my
lunchtime... :-)
Hope That Helps...

| (...) Thanks Andy, and thank you Tom as well. I'll give both suggestions a try. Andy's seems like it would be more solid, but with Tom's it seems like it would be somewhat easy to remove the grandstand, so I could enclose the whole locker room and (...) (23 years ago, 8-Jun-01, to lugnet.build)
