I spent a long time trying to come up with a steering mechanism that takes
up as little space as possible. If anyone has any other ideas, I'd be glad

They're not perfect. Micromotors are too slow and weak for much else than
steering and other simple functions, IMO. I even think they are too slow
for spinning the fiberoptic thingie. But they are perfect for steering...
