I don't mean to blow my own horn (well, not too much anyway), but have you
tried LDView? It certainly doesn't produce visuals at the quality level of
L3P->POVRay, but I feel the quality is pretty good, especially since it's a
realtime viewer. And, if you enable auto-update polling, it will reload
every time you save your model in MLCAD.
Not having access to your DAT file, I'm not sure how fast it would be with
this particular model, but I wouldn't expect it to be TOO slow (assuming you
have a video card with decent OpenGL support).

| Hi Travis, I did actually download and try out your new version of LDVIEW. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work well with my computer. I have a voodoo 2 3d card and a 450MHZ computer. It selects software rendering instead of the hardware (...) (24 years ago, 19-Oct-00, to lugnet.build, lugnet.castle, lugnet.build.arch)
