Building a moon-display for your space models —Tobias Möller
I just got this idea that I´ll try soon. By using papier-mache, some glue and sand, you could build a planet plate to play and display your space models on. This would be especially cool with classic space. You form the landscape, spread glue on it, (...) (25 years ago, 6-Oct-99, to lugnet.build)

(...) Greetings, Tobias... You might also think about -embedding- smaller plates here and there (inside craters or rills, for example) to enable you to achieve a more solid footing for your models. I've thought about this myself, both for space (...) (25 years ago, 6-Oct-99, to lugnet.build)

Embedding plates, that´s a good idea. For bases etc, I thoguht that I´d build the model on it´s own baseplate, then just put it on the display, like it´s done in the catalogues. I don´t know if it really is necessary to embed plates, if you can make (...) (25 years ago, 6-Oct-99, to lugnet.build)

Re: Building a moon-display for your space models —Roger D. Parks
(...) True, but since I live in the land of earthquakes (California), I will want to ensure a safe 'landing zone' <grin>. Bad enough to see that my work- table has been 'walked' across the room, but to have the models on it forcably dis-membered (so (...) (25 years ago, 6-Oct-99, to lugnet.build)

Re: Building a moon-display for your space models —Christopher Tracey
I did something similar to this when I was messing around with animation back in high school. A friend and I were making an ice planet movie(it never got that far) and needed sets. I built a few by first making a frame out of 1x2s about 2x3 feet. (...) (25 years ago, 6-Oct-99, to lugnet.build)

I have strted on the display. I think that by the end of the week, you will see some pictures of it. --Tobias (25 years ago, 7-Oct-99, to lugnet.build)

Re: Building a moon-display for your space models —Roger D. Parks
(...) Go for it...I'm looking forward to seeing this project get a good start. I'm still in the conceptualising stage, but likely will get some form of start this week-end as well. I'll post notes if not pictures, depending on my progress. Best of (...) (25 years ago, 7-Oct-99, to lugnet.build)

Re: Building a moon-display for your space models —Tobias Möller
Thanks! I was thinking aobut something else: When taking photos of the display, maybe a piece of black paper would make a good background as a space-sky? It would be very interesting to know how TLG made their space-photos. Perhaps they used painted (...) (25 years ago, 8-Oct-99, to lugnet.build)

Re: Building a moon-display for your space models —Roger D. Parks
(...) Just had a look, and I think you're onto something good <grin>. As for your question about backgrounds, I might off the notion of looking at the FAQ list for rec.models.railroad in the section on construction. They've got similar problems to (...)         Re: Building a moon-display for your space models —Tobias Möller
What should be improved? I know something: Time. I made mine over a weekend just to get it over so I could start taking photos. If I make another one, I´d put in more effort and time in it. --Tobias (...) at (...) They've (...) both (...) (25 years ago, 14-Oct-99, to lugnet.build)

Re: Building a moon-display for your space models —Roger D. Parks
(...) One can -always- throw more time at -any- project; whether it improves the finished item or is simply a case of 'over-engineering' the final product is open to debate <grin>. However, in this case I would say that the more time spent would (...) (25 years ago, 14-Oct-99, to lugnet.build)

Re: Building a moon-display for your space models —Tobias Möller
I don´t think it is shown very well on the pictures, but I *have* added texture. I sprinkled over sand (it´s not really sand but I don´t know the English word for it) before painting it. I own pov-ray but I think it is just too complicated for me, (...) (25 years ago, 15-Oct-99, to lugnet.build)
