I don´t think it is shown very well on the pictures, but I *have* added
texture. I sprinkled over sand (it´s not really sand but I don´t know the
English word for it) before painting it.

I own pov-ray but I think it is just too complicated for me, else I could
add height fields and make a sand texture etc. I´ve seen some of this on the
web.

What should be improved? I know something:
Time.
I made mine over a weekend just to get it over so I could start taking
photos. If I make another one, I´d put in more effort and time in it.

One can -always- throw more time at -any- project; whether it improves the
finished item or is simply a case of 'over-engineering' the final product • is
open to debate <grin>.  However, in this case I would say that the more • time
spent would certainly be an investment.  I have in mind the notion of • adding a
bit of texture to the base that you've built.  After all, we know from both
direct experience (well, those of us who actually made the trip <grin>) • that
the lunar surface is rocky; flat; dusty; has rills and valleys; variations • in
light, shadow and colour; &c.  From waht my browser showed me, I think • you've
got the hills and flats right, so the next challenge might well be to add • some
'surface detail' to the model.  The model railroaders use a form of • artist's
chalk or pastels (I'll have a look at my sources at home for the name-- I • think
it is also in the r.m.rr FAQ) to add 'weahter' effects to the colours used • on
the cars, buildings and landscape.  We might need to think about this for • the
moon- and planet-scapes that we're interested in.  This starts to sound • like a
project that might take a while to bring to full fruitition, but since I'm
doing this for both a 'space' theme as well as a 'castle'-derived theme, I • mean
to get this right.

<grin>  I guess being an engineer/hacker shows, eh?  IN any case, you've • made
an excellent start.  What are your plans to continue?  Move into the • 'virtual
world' of CAD?

Thanks for the web-site and your experiments.  You've broken some new • ground
here, and made a good effort at so doing.

Cheers,

Roger
