I must applaud Linc for a wonderfully design switch... I love it :) I also agre
with everything he has said about the Pneumatic elements. One trick I have
found to be very usefull is using pneumatic cylinders as motion-transfer
devices.
If you take two identical cylinders and cross-connect them; that is connect the
bottom port of one to the top port of the other and vice versa, then you can
transfer linear motion very easily from one part of a model to another. I've
used this in some models where I wanted two actions to occur simultaniusly, but
did not have the space for gears or chains... but I could string hoses from one
spot to the other.
If the hoses are crossed between the two cylinders, then if you compress one
cylinder, the other one compresses.. if you extend one, the other extends.
Depending on how much pressure you have between the cylinders, this force may
not be very strong, but it can be very usefull. If you connect the cylinders
straight, bottom to bottom, top to top, you get an "inverse motion" where
compressing one cylinder extends the other. This force tends to be stronger
than the other way.
I'm very tired, so this post may not be very well structured (or spelled) but I
wanted to post this while the thread was current.

If you use a t-connector to connect each side of the circuit to a compressor (that uses a SMALL pump and NO tank!) you can maintain high pressure, and the fact that the pump's cylinder is small compared to the other two cylinders means that (...)
