I designed it specifically to support the upper walls - each of the various
ever-smaller stories above the main part of the building has columns supporting
the walls all the way down to the ground. We used rubber mallets to pound on
the building as we went up to keep things consistently straight and tight, and
the columns gave us the ability to do that on the upper walls as well.
The horizontal supports also served to keep the walls a constant distance apart
as it got higher. The base was two pieces of 3/4 plywood gluednscrewed
together with wheels on the corners. I thought that would be stable enough but
as we got a couple of feet off the ground there was a noticeable tendency for
the structure to cave in toward the center - the unsupported middle of the
plywood must have been sagging. Despite this pressure the horizontal supports
were adequate to keep the spacing correct; without them wed have been toast
once we got to the upper stories and needed to tie things together. In
retrospect we should have used a more stable base with a frame, not just the
plywood.

Grays: it looks as if you combined old gray and new gray on the lower levels.
Did you? If so, I think it loooks really good. It adds some realism.

Yes, for supply reasons. Im hardly a fan of the color change but in this case
it worked out very nicely. The variances are very consistent with the real
building.
Thanks for the compliments!
