My first encounter with cicada culture was with their arch-nemesis, Cicada
Killer, a yellow wasp that threatens people and stings the heck out of
unsuspecting annual Cicada Okanagana. At this time you hear the other, deafening
Cicada cry: the death rattle. Cicada killer hauls the paralyzed body into an
underground burrow to be the living host to its blind offspring. Thus the circle
of life is completed.
Nice looking cicada!
(one of my favorite summer activities used to be to get 100 cicadas into a
hampster cage. Then you shake the cage. Cats love it.)
