The Marauder is based on the Macross Zentraedi Officer's Battle Pod. Here's a nice pic with some good detail. To me, it looks a lot more like an autogyro that a VTOL (an autogyro is a top-rotored aircraft with a exterior engines that don't power the rotors and no (...) (25 years ago, 23-May-00, to lugnet.build)
