Re: new (to me) use for worms

Just as an aside, this post made me do a double take before reading it... I was going "what?? Lego doesn't make worms, just snakes and scorpions" (25 years ago, 18-Jun-99, to lugnet.build, lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: new (to me) use for worms

(...) If I'm understanding the workings, what is being suggested is to use the worm as a slip coupling (which just happens to have a worm screw). If you look at a cars drive shaft, you will see that it is in two parts so that it can change length. (...) (25 years ago, 18-Jun-99, to lugnet.build)

Re: new (to me) use for worms

(...) Interesting idea. But in thinking about it (without actually prototyping), I have a problem. You propose to use the worm on the drive axle, right? And the idea is that the worm can slide a little bit to and fro to adjust for the axles movement (...) (25 years ago, 18-Jun-99, to lugnet.build)

new (to me) use for worms

I recently noticed that the fact that worm gears slide freely on an axle, which I've just regarded as slightly odd, can actually be of some use; to my knowledge, it's the only part that does so while being rotationally locked to the axle. What I (...) (25 years ago, 18-Jun-99, to lugnet.build)

(...) Nope, but I can see how you might think that. Most of the model(1) sits right on the baseplates, but some parts are built onto/into the mountain wall that runs around 3 sides - it's a box canyon sort of thing.   Robotic Arms

I am looking for information concerning robotic arms. Does anyone know of any ideas/instructions (Ledit) available on the net? The one on the Mindstorms box looks interesting. Any information on this arm please? Many thanks. (25 years ago, 16-Jun-99, to lugnet.build)
