I assume you are referring to the Insectoid abdomens and the dark green
saucer sections from Arachnoid star base?
I also thought these parts were useless, but about a year ago, I started
eyeing this set. I wanted to use the dark green saucer sections for a town
police station ( http://members.home.net/hmltn1/city2/police.htm ). I was
going to Brasso them to make them plain. However, $80 was a lot to pay for
just those two parts!
Recently the price of this set dropped to about $40-$50 in the US and I
started thinking about it again. Dave Johann told me that this set also had
the only small inverse saucer sections available! (I've used them under
both the dome sections in the power station.) This made it even more
exciting.
So, I finally broke down and bought one. After I got it, I really liked it!
It has tons of great special parts, and is a great dark-gray and blue parts
pack. Also, I don't want to Brasso those green saucer sections. I really
like the patterns on them.
I wrote a mini-review of this and posted it to the space group recently.
