The World according to Harshbarger, Lambrecht, and Lowell —Eric Harshbarger
There's no way I could have ever built my latest creation without the earlier work of the following two LEGO guys: - Bruce Lowell, creator of the first "Lowell Sphere" - Bram Lambrecht, author of the web-app that allows creation of any size Lowell (...)         Re: The World according to Harshbarger, Lambrecht, and Lowell —Timothy P. Smith
(...) Eric, your fanatstic work always gets my attention. I like to build big, and I've got a lot of parts, but that globe is a challenge I'm not ready to tackle... yet. ;-) Tim (Smith) (19 years ago, 9-Nov-05, to lugnet.build.sculpture)

Re: The World according to Harshbarger, Lambrecht, and Lowell —Brendan Powell Smith
It's beautiful. Kudos to the three great minds behind this! -Brendan (19 years ago, 9-Nov-05, to lugnet.build.sculpture)

Re: The World according to Harshbarger, Lambrecht, and Lowell —Derek Schin
(...) Antarctica is a negligible land mass...even though it's covered in snow and ice, I'm sure the land that is there is bigger than Madagascar. Derek (19 years ago, 9-Nov-05, to lugnet.build.sculpture)

Re: The World according to Harshbarger, Lambrecht, and Lowell —Ed Diment
(...) Derek is correct, the physical land mass of Antartica is actually almost the same as the USA (5.4 million sq miles vs 5.9 million sq miles). The ice shelves and ice mass are in addition to this area. Having said that, your creation is way cool (...) (19 years ago, 11-Nov-05, to lugnet.build.sculpture)

Re: The World according to Harshbarger, Lambrecht, and Lowell —Bram Lambrecht
(...) was thinking about doing a small one myself, or a decent size virtual one, but I never got around to it. Did you consider doing more colors to create a 3-D mosaic? Perhaps a more realistic color scheme with forest, desert, and clouds...I (...) (19 years ago, 17-Nov-05, to lugnet.build.sculpture)

Re: The World according to Harshbarger, Lambrecht, and Lowell —David Winkler
(...) I saw this and thought it was the greatest thing ever. I did my own virtual version with (URL). (URL) Plate Lowell Globe>> I followed Mr. Harshbarger's lead and based it on a 48 stud diameter Lowell Sphere. The land masses come from the (URL) (...)           Re: The World according to Harshbarger, Lambrecht, and Lowell —Bram Lambrecht
(...) Would you mind sharing what software or code you used to map the image to the sphere? I'm wondering how the globe would look with (URL) one of these images> mapped to the Lego palette. --Bram (19 years ago, 22-Nov-05, to lugnet.build.sculpture, FTX)

Re: The World according to Harshbarger, Lambrecht, and Lowell —David Winkler
(...) The mapping from these images to a sphere is a conversion to Ldraw coordinates, then a rotation based on which panel we are rendering, then a conversion from these to polar coordinates, then interpreting phi to be latitude, and theta to be (...)            Re: The World according to Harshbarger, Lambrecht, and Lowell —Eric Harshbarger
I'm impressed with the calculations you did there. Maybe someone will build physical model based on these instructions and then one day we can get my globe together with that one and see how close I was to reality [grin]. eric (...) ... (...)            Re: The World according to Harshbarger, Lambrecht, and Lowell —David Winkler
I finally finished building a globe from my (URL) plans>. (URL) gallery>> I built three panels using the revised plans with 1 (URL) 2434 (Brick, Modified 2 x 4 x 2 with Studs on Sides)> piece in each side.. Then I tried putting the three panels (...)           Re: The World according to Harshbarger, Lambrecht, and Lowell —David Winkler
(...) While I was on Thanksgiving vacation I spent some time on this. Minor updates made to the (URL) Brickshelf gallery>. I found a place where I was overconstraining the model. Fixing the bug leads to a slightly more structurally sound model with (...) (19 years ago, 30-Nov-05, to lugnet.build.sculpture, FTX)

Re: The World according to Harshbarger, Lambrecht, and Lowell —Eric Harshbarger
It rolls quite well [grin]. I considered doing each continent a different color, but then thought that might be too distracting. eric (...) (19 years ago, 22-Nov-05, to lugnet.build.sculpture)
