Re: The Greatest Adventure Movies List —Roger D. Parks
(...) {{SNIPP}} I'm shocked, -shocked-, I tell you! Not even a -mention- of 'Captain Horatio Hornblower'. <grin> Not to mention the recent A&E (?) re-make, for which a -new- 22-gun frigate was built -and launched-. Really, Mark-- I'd thought better (...) (25 years ago, 2-Nov-99, to lugnet.adventurers, lugnet.general)

Re: The Greatest Adventure Movies List —Bruce Schlickbernd
(...) Movies, which lets out the A&E production. Either or both belong in the Great Age of Sail/Pirates movie list, in any case. I don't believe 22 guns rates as a Frigate, though it would be a post ship (oh dang, I forget the screwy rules for (...) (25 years ago, 2-Nov-99, to lugnet.adventurers, lugnet.general)

(...) <shrug> I didn't see an exclusion of TV productions; must have missed it, eh? Hmmmm... a bit narrow on the definition, aren't you, especially since 'Captain Blood' and 'Mutiny on the Bounty' and.....-are- included. Or did you object to those, (...)        (...) I suggested Captain Blood, of course. :-) (...) as (...) They could call whatever they had available a "frigate". But it is in fact a frigate - 20 guns was the minimum, not 24 as I was thinking. Bruce (25 years ago, 2-Nov-99, to lugnet.adventurers, lugnet.general)

Re: The Greatest Adventure Movies List —Roger D. Parks
(...) eh? (...) I saw that...but in this day and age, a 'movie' can be shown on TV, or directly to video tape/disk. Or are those also excluded, in your opinion? Cheers, Roger (25 years ago, 2-Nov-99, to lugnet.adventurers, lugnet.general)

Re: The Greatest Adventure Movies List —Mark Lindsey
(...) directly (...) They shouldn't be excluded in my opinion. It is very rare though for a made for TV movie to rate among those intended for the big screen. I guess by its very definition a made for TV movie is not expected to draw a paying (...) (25 years ago, 3-Nov-99, to lugnet.adventurers)

Re: The Greatest Adventure Movies List —Bruce Schlickbernd
(...) So what do I know? English frigates could be 20 guns as a 6th rate ship. Thought it was 24. Bruce (25 years ago, 2-Nov-99, to lugnet.adventurers, lugnet.general)
