I think both purists and clone-fans alike would be well served to allow clone auction info in OT.Clones, rather than letting them get lost in the volume of lugnet.market. I for one must confess that I’ve listed and discussed plenty of clone auctions in OT.Clones without causing great uproar or disruption.

It’s certainly something that can be discussed. The Lugnet transition team will be exploring this issue some. Todd and Suzanne had expressed a desire for all market posting to occur in the lugnet.market hierarchy, but there has long been desire to have other markets. There are things to consider about how the post roll-up to groups higher in the hierarchy work.

As far as volume, the volume in lugnet.market.auction is pretty low. Lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade has more traffic, but still not much. We will be exploring how to better organize the market activity in the existing groups. Effort is also in progress to update the TOU to match Todd and Suzanne’s intent in moving all market activity to the market groups (currently, the TOU allow non-auction market activity in other groups, but there has been a move away from that).

I note, as an aside, that there is nothing explicit in the lugnet.cad or lugnet.cad.dat TOS indicating that only official LDraw DATs may be posted to those groups. Should I take this as authorization to post lots and lots of clone DATs there?

No, there are no specific reasons to limit discussion of clones anywhere on the boards, so long as the post in general meets the requirements of being reasonably related to LEGO. On the other hand paying attention to who your audience is and community norms in where to post is important also.

I have no intent of posting clone.DATs there of course, in deference to the sentiments of the people who use that group. Might we therefore take into account the opinions of people who browse OT.Clones? Is it possible to amend the charter for OT.Clones to allow clone auctions to be listed there?

   Follow-ups to: lugnet.admin.terms.

Might this be worth mentioning to the lugnet.market crowd, too? Will they be so accommodating of non-LEGO items being listed and/or highlighted in that group?

The volume of market activity is so low these days I can’t see much complaint either way.
