I think Matt touches on an interesting "quandary" around privacy (esp. for
younger folks)
First off, folks are welcome to tell me "this isn't a big deal so stop
worrying". Because they may well be right!!!
My daughter, who is 11, has an email ID. She uses it to email friends and so
forth, as well as registering for IM so she could IM them. But I set it up
so that it doesn't give away what her last name is, etc. because I have
privacy concerns. Further she is under strict instructions never to reveal
her name, address, phone number, etc. to anyone she doesn't already know.
She currently lurks a tiny bit but does not have her own separate identity
here. If she wanted to post, what's the best way to enable that? I don't
really want her to give out her email address. (If she registers here, it
becomes visible and associated with her full name)
Is it OK to attach MY email address to her identity? I think a strict
interpretation of the ToS says no. Is it OK for her to post as "me" and sign
her name so that it's clear that it's her and not me??? Again, I think a
strict interpretation says no.
This is purely a hypothetical because she's shown no interest at this point.
So resolving it ain't exactly urgent. But i am interested in what people
think, especially administrative type people like Suz and Todd.
