I tend to agree that .castle.vikings would be better than
.pirates.vikings(though I think simple .vikings would be better then either).
Historically, though, it seems to have been generally acceptable to post
distinctly non-piratey stuff to .pirates: Frederick der Grosse, Takao, Snottler,
for example ... ;-)

| (...) lugnet.vikings makes the most sense to me. Personally, I don't understand the resistance to creating a new group for it. If we have lugnet.galidor, why not lugnet.vikings? I would've thought a new group for {any} new theme would almost be an (...) (19 years ago, 21-Apr-06, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)
